EN. I would have thought that the records got the energy of the first album. Would you agree with that?

TR. It's definitely got more energy than '#4'. It was an extraordinarily happy time making the record. We felt like we'd really fought for it and now we're here let's make the best of it - let's make a racket. I would hope it's there because it was made with a lot of affection and a lot of enthusiasm.

EN. What's Tim like? Does he bring songs to the band and say 'Go for it. Do what you want'?

DL. Yeah. We get a tape of a song that Tim will have nutted out - just accoustic guitar and some singing - and Russ, Andy and I will go away for a week and try to think up different bits and pieces. Tim will suggest playing it a certain way or maybe have a riff.

EN. Have you had to learn not to be precious about it? You're pouring you're heart out sometimes in your songs - you give it to these guys and they might take it in a completely different direction.

You Am ITR. It just hasn't happened. I think we're just fortunate. I can write these songs because I trust and love these guys I play in the band with. If I didn't love and trust them I wouldn't bring the affectionate or sad and emotional songs to them. I'd write ones with all the emotion of a flat tyre. These guys are great players but they're also my best friends. We scrap and we fight but we've been through a lot together and I can bring these songs to them. As a songwriter it's an extraordinary position to be in a band that you totally trust and you don't have to hold yourself back. They let me be a complete prima donna, a complete fruitcake, a whirly-girly of over emotion. ...
