28 Days
Forming
in October 1996, the members
of 28 Days served their apprenticeships in Melbourne bands Mindsnare,
S.I.C. and Self Reliance. A chance jam session brought them together
to become the band 28 Days. Their broad range of influences see
them perform a combination of pop-punk, hardcore and hip-hop, always
with a powerful and energetic edge.
28 Days released
their first self-titled debut CD in late march '98 on Stubble Records
to a wave of encouraging reviews from journalists worldwide, including
a 4K rating from Kerrang in the U.K. The first single off their
debut, 'Sand', was described as a "testament to 28 Days' ability
to incorporate the essence of a variety of genres into a piece of
music that is cohesive as it is exciting." Early 1999 saw 28 Days
become the first signing to Mushroom sub label Spudnik, and recording
material for the EP 'Kid Indestructible' featuring the singles 'Kool'
and 'La Tune'. The EP earned Kalju Tonuma an ARIA award nomination
for Best Engineer. Kalju again took up the role of Producer/Engineer
on both "Sucker" and "Rip It Up".
28 Day's first
Spudnik album 'Upstyledown' entered the national charts at No.1.
In November
2001 28 Days’ drummer Scott Murray, considered one of the most popular
members of the group, was run over by a car after leaving a rehearsal.
He never recovered from his injuries.
