DLT
DLT's musical
history dates back to 1982 when
he became a founding member of New Zealand's first ever hip hop
outfit, Upper Hutt Posse. Inspired by the socially conscious, intelligent
and revolutionary lyrics of artists such as Bob Marley and Gill
Scott-Heron, and applying it to the influence of the flourishing
New York Hip Hop scene, DLT went on to make history as NZ's pioneering
Hip Hop producer and the first ever DJ to scratch on a locally produced
record.
After leaving
Upper Hutt Posse DLT's initials become a trademark for quality production,
including production duties for local hip hop heroes Teremoana,
Joint Force, Native Bass and Che Fu and remix work for Supergroove.
On July 2 1996, DLT he released
a debut solo album 'The Trueschool', showcasing his skills as a
producer and DJ. 'The Trueschool' went on to gain release throughout
Asia, Europe, South Africa, and Australia. The album's single 'Chains'
(featuring Che Fu) held the NZ #1 Chart position for eight weeks
and went on to achieve multi-platinum status, earning DLT the Best
Single Award at the 1997 New Zealand Music Awards.
After almost
four years DLT finally released a second album, 'Altruism'.
