Growing
up, when Guven needed to find meaning in life it was music which
seemed to offer answers. He's still looking for the meaning of life.
Today in music of his own he asks the questions and offers some
of the answers he's found in music of his own. Guven is a work in
progress. That's part of his appeal. Like every first album, this
one took a lifetime to prepare for. In real terms it still took
a long time, about four years. Producer/songwiter Ashley Cadell
discovered this raw passionate then-rapper, with a volcano of emotions
that were erupting into scrap books and rudimentary song ideas on
tapes. They started working on the songs that became this album.
Sometimes Ashley would lose contact with Guven, but he was patient,
and every time he came back to the project Guven was more confident
and more focussed. The rapper gave way to a soulful singer. The
words of his songs walk between the dark and bright side of life.
Dig deep and you find songs about life, love and the whole damn
thing, all along the way to drugs, rejection and paedophilia. It
comes from the dark side, from obvious real life experience, but
tries to make sense of it, and offer hope. Music was Guven's lifeline.
He wants his own music to be a lifeline too. It's rap, it's funk,
it's soul, it's hip hop. On stage Guven looks like Henry Rollins.
Tough. The fingers extend in emphasis, rapper fashion. He's brooding,
shy.There are flashes of a white, friendly smile. The tough guy
gives way to passion and emotion as soon as he speaks or sings.
Guven is a work in progress. Since releasing the album he's formed
a band, and the music which was conceived in his head, born in the
studio, is enjoying the freedom of life. Guven's on a personal music
journey which has nothing to do with music fashion. Get on board.
