An
Australian Blues Discography Compiled
by Gary Possum Palmer. This
book has had several varying formats and has been re-produced on at least two
websites around Australia. It lists
every known blues recording by Australian artists, giving the title of the
release, catalogue number and date of release.
For each album, track listings are provided. The fifth and most recent edition was produced in January
1997. Early editions included
noting original song writers, particularly of American traditional blues'

this major work was published in a single volume, 1959-1989, thus becoming the
first time that someone had attempted to document all the releases by Australian
pop and rock artists. Two limited
runs of 300 and 200 soon sold out. People
continued to request copies of the book, but there was not enough interest to
warrant a full updated, revised edition. To
make the updating and re-printing more manageable, the compiler decided to break
the book up into different periods, to facilitate the revision and updating and
to appeal to collectors of different musical periods.
In an attempt to make the books more marketable, the compiler has added
extra information. Each volume, except the 1990-95 volume, now boasts a rating
system for every album. Other
information included in the 1960s and 1970s volumes are summaries of album
reviews, making them indispensable for collectors of music from these eras.
Each
volume lists the name of the band, title of each release, B side titles, label,
catalogue number and date of release (often including the month).
Track listings are provided for albums and as mentioned each is given a
rating out of ten. Ratings were based on surveys, previously published in a
variety of music publications, and the personal opinion of the compiler who has
listened to every album listed in the books. The

The
Australian Various Artist on Cassette 1978-1996 Compiled
by Paul McHenry and Chris Spencer This
book followed on from the successful Various Artist in
Australia.
Whereas the Various Artist concentrated on compilations on mainly vinyl
and cd, this book solely looks at compilations that only appeared on the
cassette format. Listing nearly 200
compilations of primarily all Australian bands, the format of the book is to
list for each cassette, all the bands involved, their tracks and in the comments
section, reviews are summarised and the authors add pertinent information.
There are illustrations of many of the covers.
Genres of music included are pop, alternative, rock, folk, new wave, punk
and reggae. Published
