Rising like an 800lb gorilla out of Wollongong's fun-times dance scene, the 'Fists' bring the tech soundlab wizardry of Doctor J to the dazzle of Leroy's percussive dexterity, mixing in old-skool flava and nu-skool cool over samples and shout-outs to form a bangin' mix -- with seismic dance floor effect. The Fists' meaty repertoire funks from booty-shakin', smile-on-ya-dial breakbeats to deep down and dirty 2am style chugging tech/house, with a taste of just about everything in-between. Their live sets are served hot, spiced up with live percussion jams featuring Paul "Fingers" Issa (darbukka) and Matt Bourne (djembe). These boys pull out all the tools in their respective belts to build a wall of sound so fat and funky it'll satisfy even the most discerning of appetites. The Fists live performances are receiving well-earned accolades. They've opened for acts like The Resin Dogs, NuBreed, Johnny Gleeson and AfroDizziAct, and they draw full-house crowds for their own Wollongong headline shows. They've had their performances broadcast live on Sydney radio (BondiFM, FBI), and they've received healthy local airplay in Wollongong (i98FM, 2VOXFM). A self-produced 5 track promo CD "Demonstration" (Aug 2003) shows off their gadgets-only production skills (alas - none of Leroy's live drumming!), while a video disc for one of the demo songs "Mister Strong" captures some of the energy and vibe of an early live show. The Fists are currently writing and producing new and original songs for their debut release, developing their electronic dance sound to incorporate guest vocals and musicians whilst tapping into their live acoustic drum and percussion energy. With socks pulled up and headbands on, the Fists are ready to rumble. Finger pumpin' and crowd jumpin' - these kids are rocking sandpits up and down the coast with their 'tougher than Tonka' beats.
