Woonona Industrial Cooperative Society
Late last
century, J was recruited by an ad in Drum Media, to play in a Ride covers
band which eventually folded. G & J decided however to keep jamming occasionally.
In 2002, with an affinity for obscure Donovan songs, the duo headlined the
notorious "Being for the Benefit of Mr Holmes" to rapturous reviews, largely
by drunken friends. Spurred on by this adoring fanbase, the duo became a 4
piece in 2003. The band launching itself as "High tide" at the heavy rock
charity gig for Canteen at the 'Noona Bowlo. They were to be the "light relief
at the other end of the hall whilst the "real" bands set up".Not only drawing
praise from many a grey haired bowler, the band created enough of a vibe to
have a decent crowd, full of the other bands, checking them out and nodding
approvingly....as well as the crowd they rented. As per usual, after jamming
for 6 months and then a gig, the tide eventually turned, leaving G & J to
jam on. The bands name was taken from the crumbling, century old edifice that
decorates the heart of bustling downtown Woonona. The bands next plans are
to record in Abbey Road studios, Londonium, with John Leckie. When they win
Lotto.
