Fugg formed in 1995 out of four individuals playing in fuzzy south coast band's of the early 1990's. Early Fugg songs were short, fast and loud....exploring such diverse topics as dubious nightspots, shared accomodation, catholic education, social politics, ahem....erections, cars and all other stuff that makes up literary content of the good one to two minute energetic rock n roll tunes. The boys gained an enthusiastic cult following, strangely compelled (and propelled across the dance floor) by hilarious live antics, genuinely bizarre "no two show's are the same" dress up presentations and a good natured irreverence for 20th centuary popular culture. On any one night amongst their own set, one might encounter horrific covers by diverse luminaries such as Devo, The GoGos, A Flock Of Seagulls, Beach Boys, Cameo, Ramones, Depeche Mode or Suzi Quattro, performed in a unique (some may say unrecognisable) Fugg way. Fugg have peformed regularly in pubs, clubs, universities, festivals as well as more unorthodox venues along the east coast of Australia with the likes of Frenzal Rhomb, Something For Kate, Powderfinger, Mental as Anything, Tumbleweed and many others. A hit of sorts, "Distorion Saved My Teenage Arse" was lifted from the "Drucked" ep of 1997 and likewise "Pale Edwards" from the "Altar Ego" cd of 1998. Both receiving Triple J air play courtesy of Jane Gazzo and a 3am timeslot on Rage (yeah....I missed it to). In 1999 the original guitarist left the band and was replaced by a keyboardist and new guitarist which took the band in somewhat of a different direction. With a fresher and more sophisticated slant, gradually crystalising into the mature Fugg sound as many know today. The band signed to High Beam and released the full length album "Art Burt" in 2001. By chance, a lively Thursday night at an inner city pub in 2002 proved fortuitous when members of iconic Australian group Mental As Anything were enjoying a few drinks and pricked up their ears during Fugg's performance. Through a few conversations and meetings they expressed interest in recording the band, the fruits of which can be heard on the album "No Left Turn Unstoned". The songwriting has matured, developed, become more expansive and multi dimensional though the basic blueprint is the same. The songs are clever, funny, groovy and infectious. The original "party band" concept remains and Fugg stand alone as a spontanious, harmonious and relaxed, genuine crowd pleaser. When a band member's mother was queried about the sticker on her car "what's Fugg?", she replied "it's something that makes you drink beer and dance".
