March * Cold Chisel release 'Breakfast at Sweethearts', reaching #4 nationally and becoming the highest selling Australian album of the year
April * The Boys Next Door release their debut album 'Door Door'
July * The Angels release 'No Exit'
September * Mental As Anything release 'Get Wet' and the single 'The Nips are Getting Bigger' goes on to #1 on the UK alternative charts
October * Midnight Oil release 'Head Injuries'
November * The Go-Betweens leave Australia for the UK
December * The Angels play for 100,000 people on the steps of the Sydney Opera House, on New Years Eve. Doc Neeson and Chris Bailey were both injured by flying bottles during the show which ends in a riot
